Ashenfall is a handcrafted continent, not a random seed.

That means any region guide you find online applies to every save file.

The order and material tiers run like this:

Brynmoor and Ghornfell → Fellhollow → Dowdun Reach → Umbral Sands → Scorned Wilderness

Matching tiers: Iron → Steel → Mithril → Adamant → Runite.

What each region contains

5Scorned WildernessSeptember 2026 (1.0)RuniteEndgame raid, final boss Kuldra

Two details matter.

Umbral Sands is the largest region so far, according to Jagex, and it leans on Kharidian desert imagery.

Scorned Wilderness is not a new open region. It is the endgame raid. It contains The Hub, where you can build, and the Raid area, where you cannot.

Power Level decides whether you can move on

The difficulty here is not reflexes. It is Power Level. Three rules cover it.

  1. Your Power Level comes from the armour set you are wearing.
  2. Mixing tiers averages the values and rounds down, so one low-tier piece drags the whole set down.
  3. When an enemy is two or more levels above you, a skull icon appears next to its name. That is a warning, not a suggestion.

When you see the skull, go back to the previous region and fix your gear tier. Grinding it out is the expensive option.

Creator playtests agree on the shape of it: five hits versus a hundred hits. That is a qualitative gap, not a numbers gap.

Where to put your base

This is one of the most repeated questions in the community. Three criteria settle it.

  • Materials nearby. Does the area have the resources your current tier needs?
  • Quest route. Where do the main and side quests pass, and how far is the base from them?
  • Buildable ground. Building has stability rules. Slopes need more foundations and beams.

The official building video mentions Brimstone fields, the Ghornfell highlands, the misty ruins of Fellhollow, the area around the Dowdun Reach fortress, and the Umbral Sands coast.

Those are examples, not a ranking. Use the three criteria above.

Fast travel and map tools

  • Lodestones are the region-to-region fast travel points. After 1.0, activated Lodestones show directly on the map instead of a separate menu.
  • Other 1.0 map improvements: icons enlarge and show a tooltip on hover, and the quest sidebar collapses so you can see the whole map.
  • Community maps such as MapGenie and MetaForge help with specific point locations. For region order and tiers, trust the official sources.

Limits

  • Jagex has not published the map area or a cap on the number of regions, so this page does not quote a figure.
  • Recommended Power Levels per region are not published either. This page gives the material tier order only.
  • Community map place names shift between patches. Treat them as tools, not authorities.
